The first solo exhibition of Haruki Kiyama, a Japan-US based artist, dancer, and actor - "KIYAMA HARUKI Solo Exhibition - HELLO my name is" will be held at Daikanyama Art Gallery of DRELLA, a new art business company established by Cool Japan TV Inc.
Born to a Japanese dancer father, Isaburo Hanayagi, and a ballerina mother, Kayoi Koyama, both parents are stage performers. He entered the University of the Arts Philadelphia School of Graphic Design and graduated with a BFA in Performing Arts. He made his Broadway debut as the first Japanese performer in the worldwide popular illusion "The Illusionist".
He is currently active as an all-around artist as well as a stage actor in musicals such as Touken Ranbu (Wild Dance of Swords) and a designer for his own apparel brand, ASCENDED. In this first solo exhibition, he will showcase his first publicly exhibited works, including oil paintings and digital art, in commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the release of his teddy bear art, which has always been developed as apparel and sold out as soon as it was released. His sense of art, inspired by American pop culture where he spent his youth, and his humorous and playful sensibility bring viewers back to their childhood and make them feel warm and fuzzy.
Comment by Haruki Kiyama
"As technology continues to develop at a remarkable pace, various things are becoming faster and more convenient, but at the same time, I feel that there is less and less time for us to slowly nurture our thoughts and senses. It is precisely because we live in such an era that I think it is important to freely feel the world of expression, which has no answers. The feeling and energy that resides in a single picture is something that cannot be created by AI. Art is alive, even though it is materially stationary. I believe that art is live entertainment. I would be happy if I can provide excitement to those who come into contact with my art."
